Wednesday

Last Wednesday I met a man from the motherland. I asked, “Are you from Ethiopia?”

He said, “No love, I’m Egyptian.”

Offered me some water, told me to take his hand.

We discussed the people we loved, and the ones we thought we can.

He talked about his two daughters Akua and Nkechi.

Used colorful words about his children, he was rather lively.

Described how they smiled when they saw him thriving.

Shared concerns of when he’ll be back, he hoped that it be timely.

Then suggested I close my eyes because he wanted me to see

the wind that sang whispers through the eucalyptus trees.

It was gentle, quite simple, the scent that carried whispers.

I saw stories of a fox who survived the coldest winter,

and the gazelle who dove gracefully into earths fiery center.

But before she took the leap she yelled, “Keep your spirit kinder!” and her legs burst into flames

*My name…I hear my name…*

“What happened?!”

“Oh, you’re awake. I was calling your name.”

The Egyptian said to me.

Puzzled, I answered,

“The last thing I remember was the aroma from the eucalyptus trees.”

He replied, “That was the incense I lit, and its’ residue you smelled.

You started talking 100 miles per minute then began to yell

about how you enjoyed the way the leaves danced in the wind

and every time they stopped you clapped,

“ENCORE! AGAIN! AGAIN!”

So they danced about the same length of time that my incense burned.

With your eyes closed you stood up performed a light brise’ and turned.”

Finally Caught Up To The Little Engine That Could…

Staying consistent, even when motivation is lacking, is essential for achieving long-term goals. Consistency creates a reliable framework that supports progress and the development of productive habits. It requires discipline and a clear understanding of your reasons for pursuing your objectives. By establishing a routine and committing to small, manageable tasks daily, you build a foundation that helps you push through periods of low motivation. This approach ensures steady progress, preventing setbacks that often occur when relying solely on fluctuating motivation.

Additionally, consistency cultivates resilience and adaptability, helping you navigate challenges and distractions. When motivation dips, established habits and routines can keep you on track, reinforcing your commitment until motivation returns. This practice of persevering, even when it’s difficult, builds mental toughness and a sense of achievement. It shifts your focus from immediate gratification to long-term success, emphasizing the power of persistence over fleeting motivation. Over time, this dedication to consistency not only aids in reaching your goals but also in developing a resilient mindset capable of overcoming future obstacles.

Otaku Moms: Navigating Parenthood and Anime Passion

***The word Otaku is borrowed directly from Japanese, and in English use tends to refer to a person who has hobby-related interests that might be regarded as obsessive, particularly in the fields of anime and manga.

Moms who love anime, or Otaku, enjoy blending their family life with their passion for watching anime. They find joy and relaxation in their favorite shows, which offer a fun escape from daily responsibilities. Anime also gives them a way to bond with their children by sharing their favorite series and introducing their kids to new ones. With so many different types of anime, from action and adventure to romance and everyday life, these moms can always find something that matches their mood and interests.

Being a mom and an otaku is empowering in a sense because it breaks stereotypes and highlights the diversity within the anime community. I can often connect with other anime fans, finding support and friendship online and in real life. My love for anime inspires my children to explore their own interests and hobbies. Seeing diverse characters in anime is especially meaningful and shows that representation matters. This hobby brings personal happiness and helps create a creative and inclusive environment for my family.

Mine Grows Mean…

I’ve gone on another sprouting adventure.

Due to sprouting and using jars, it’s placed me on a journey to harvest microgreens. My goal is to perfect the process before the Summertime and choose which method works best.

What did I use?

Items I had laying around in my home of course!

– leftover strawberry trays

– moist paper towels

– spray bottle

– mixed broccoli and spicy radish seeds

This was my final result, and during the process I made plenty of mistakes. There is a reason for this though. My impatience, wavering, and tentative approach. A harsh evaluation, but the truth set me free, immediately.

Because I didn’t follow the “how-to” consistently, it led to an overpacked tray of seeds that didn’t have enough room to sprout to its full potential. I did not routinely spritz water on my greens, and I skipped a day or two!

Overall, this was definitely an experience, but there will be a next time…

House’s Order, Sprout! Pt. 2

What I have noticed is that in the whimsical world of sprouting, jars become tiny incubators of life. As seeds snugly nestle within the glass confines, a magical transformation unfolds. It’s like a miniature garden party where each sprout dons its green party hat and stretches towards the lid, eager to join the celebration of growth. The jar becomes a dance floor for the sprouts, swaying to the rhythm of water and sunlight. With each day, the once dormant seed burst into a lively parade of freshness, turning the jar into a vibrant spectacle of natures own confetti. It’s a “sproutacular affair” where every jar tells a story of resilience, renewal.

This is my experience, check out the process…

Sprouting using cheesecloth wasn’t a complete failure. As you can see, my legumes did sprout. Yet nothing was edible due to the scent and taste of mildew. I found out later that I was using the wrong covering to drain the water.

I decided to think fast and use this fruit netting to ensure the correct drainage of my seeds. It truly made a difference.

Unfortunately, by not securely fastening the net to the brim of the jar I experienced a few seeds falling down the drain. Could you imagine how I felt when I thought I had tied the net onto my sprouting jar?! It was discouraging, but I had to charge it as a rookie mistake.

One of the best parts of sprouting is “de-hulling”. That means I am separating the hulls and the un-sprouted seeds. The process takes about two to three rinses.

Vibrance in the palm of my hand…

Just like that, the finished product! Spicy radishes (top right), mixed broccoli (front), and black seed sprouts (top left) are ready for storage and eating.
